The Institute

About Institute

The conception of the Regional Labour Institute was a part of Vidarbha Development, mainly with the view to have a balance between the regional manpower requirement and the needs of planned industrial development of the Vidarbha Region.

It was then felt necessary to have a regional branch of Late Narayan Meghaji Lokhande Maharashtra Institute of Labour Studies at Nagpur in order to meet the aspirations of people from Vidarbha in the context of higher education. Regional Labour Institute was established to meet the manpower requirement of industry and labour from Vidharbha & now it is dedicated to the task of Human Resource Development of Vidarbha.

Starting with imparting a 9-month Diploma for union leaders, it was elevated to two years full-time post-graduate diploma in Labour Studies in 1983.

With the increasing complexities of modern industrial work and life, the whole perspective of labour welfare widened considerably and it became necessary to nationalize and tone up the training program, enabling the trainees to deliver their duties and responsibilities, particularly in the field of Labour Welfare, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management; with this view in mind the Diploma in Labour Studies (D.L.S) was upgraded and replaced by the newly instituted 2 years post-graduate degree course – Master of Labour Studies (MLS) from Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.

Regional Labour Institute is a unique institute, one of its kinds in the field of labour studies. It has a glorious history of 50 years and has emerged as a stronger body that has contributed to the economy and industry in many ways.

The institute understands the growing and changing needs of HR & IR professionals and has structured the program to develop appropriate aptitude and attitude.
